ApacheCon 2003 Keynotes, Presenters, and Sponsors Reveal Real World Insight on Getting It Right with Open Source Technology
Keynotes from Chris Pirillo, Doc Searls and Sun Microsystems Offer Lessons Learned, New Ideas, Tips, Tools, Tricks, and more.
10/22/2003 – http://www.apachecon.com/ – The Apache Software Foundation – stewards, incubators, and developers of leading Open Source projects, including Apache HTTPd, the world’s most popular Web server software – today announced featured keynotes, speakers and sponsors at its official conference.
ApacheCon 2003 is the sixth in a series of conferences that highlight key projects integral to the rapid demand for Open Source technologies, including PHP, Perl, XML, Java, MySQL, and WebDAV. Bringing the best minds in the industry together with conference participants from across the globe, ApacheCon creates a unique hands-on learning environment that offers attendees the opportunity to learn from recognized industry experts. This year, the program highlights the dynamic nature of open development by grouping sessions into three Focus Days: 1) Apache with XML and Java; 2) All Things Apache; and 3) Apache with Perl and PHP. ApacheCon also features new vendor showcase sessions, a first for the show.
“As Open Source initiatives continue to evolve and expand, it is even more important than ever for users and developers to keep abreast of the latest technologies, trends, and issues,” explained ApacheCon Chairman Ken Coar. “ApacheCon is the ideal forum for exploring the many opportunities that face businesses today – from development to deployment – while maintaining the intimacy of working within a community. It’s the global hub for all things Apache!”
Instructors, Presenters, and Speakers
ApacheCon 2003’s power-packed tutorials and sessions are led by more than 60 industry thought leaders, including keynotes by:
Lockergnome founder, Google top-ranker, and blogger Chris Pirillo on The Death of Email Marketing: “I sit here, in my comfy chair, surfing on a wireless Internet connection, grooming my inbox and deleting 90% of what's sitting in there. Why? It's junk. It's useless. This used to be my playground, and it was once the avenue through which I could deliver my thoughts to hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world. I'm not the only one who has to put up with unsolicited advertisements for sending money to a country that doesn't exist on any world map. Worse yet, my wife is getting e-mails that promise to increase the size of a part of her body that she doesn't have. We've been looking for a solution that will enable us to get back on track with our audience. Well, it's already out there - and it's free for anybody to use. The key? The bridge? The solution? The Rosetta Stone of online data. RSS. Really Simple Syndication.”
Linux Journal Senior Editor and Cluetrain Manifesto co-author Doc Searls on Apache and Do-It-Yourself IT (DIY-IT): “The standard vendor story is about how they develop ‘solutions’ that can be solved in no other way than with the vendor's products. But what is the customer story? What about the solutions customers create and improve for themselves? Apache, for example. That's a story that's not being told very much; I will describe what I’ve found out about the underside of this iceberg. I'll be presenting my own findings about the ‘great disconnect’ between vendor and customer stories, and will be listening eagerly around the conference to tales of customer stories that are not yet being told, but should be.”
Sun Microsystems Chief Technology Officer John Fowler on How Things Change When the Network is the Computer: "We've found that security and privacy, software licensing and pricing and software development all become people-centric, making open source development the obvious path."
The complete speaker roster includes:
Brian Aker, Jean-Francois Arcand, Thies Arntzen, Aaron Bannert, David Bau, Stas Bekman, Stephen Betts, Rich Bowen, Marcus Börger, Kin-man Chung, Ken Coar, John Coggeshall, Mark Cox, Wesley D. Craig, Thomas DeWeese, Joe Gregorio, Ceki Gülcü, Hartmut Holzgraefe, Sterling Hughes, Will Iverson, Nick Kew, Rasmus Lerdorf, Ted Leung, Howard Lewis Ship, Elena Litani, Daniel Lopez Ridruejo, Stefano Mazzocchi, Craig McClanahan, Kevin McGowan, Chris McManaman, Glenn Nielsen, Steven Noels, Andrew Oliver, Joyce Park, Mark Pilgrim, Chris Pirillo, Martin Poeschl, Ovidiu Predescu, Jason Purdy, Antoine Quint, Gianugo Rabellino, Garrel Renick, Mark Roth, Theo Schlossnagle, Henning Schmiedehausen, Doc Searls, Chris Shiflett, Trent Shue, Bruce Snyder, Greg Stein, Sander Striker, Sander Temme, Doug Tidwell, Mads Toftum, Adam Trachtenberg, Michael Wechner, Casey West, Jim Winstead, Mark Womack, Cliff Woolley, Geoffrey Young, and Carsten Ziegeler.
