Speaker FAQ

Q: Am I registered for ApacheCon 2019?
A: If you are a confirmed speaker, you have been pre-registered for the ApacheCon North America conference by the ACNA Service Center. If you have not received a follow-up email asking you to complete registration questions, please contact acnareg@apachecon.com. The follow-up email subject line is “ApacheCon - Complete Your Registration!”

Q: How do I complete my registration?
A: Locate the follow-up email that was sent to the email address provided when you submitted your Paper. The email subject line is “ApacheCon - Complete Your Registration!”. If you did not receive the follow-up email, please contact acnareg@apachecon.com. Please click on the link in the e-mail asking you to complete your registration. You will be prompted to enter your e-mail address and confirmation number. Once your information has been put in and you are on the confirmation page, please click the “Modify” link. This will allow you to complete your registration information including contact, shirt size, dietary needs, and participation in Apache Projects.

Q: Is there a slide template?
A: You can use THIS TEMPLATE (OpenOffice/LibreOffice format) (Thanks go to Dave Fisher), or THIS ONE (PowerPoint format).

Q: What is the projector aspect ratio and resolution?
A: The projector screen aspect ratio is 16:10 for the standard res 1024x768.

Q: Where can I make my hotel reservations?
A: The official ANCA 2019 hotel is The Flamingo Las Vegas. ACNA has secured a special nightly rate. Use this link to make your reservation.

Q: Do I need to submit my presentation in advance?
A: Not in advance. Please bring your laptop with your presentation pre-loaded or on a flash drive.

Q: How will I show my presentation?
A: Each speaker is responsible for bringing their own laptop. Bring your presentation – preferably as a PDF – on a flash drive. If your session has more than one speaker, your session’s moderator or chair may ask for your presentation ahead of time to combine everyone’s into one smooth show.

Q: Can I include video in my presentation?
A: Yes - if it's embedded in your presentation. Keep in mind though, hard line Internet connections are not available at the speaker's podium, and hotspots can be unreliable at times for streaming videos.

Q: What can I expect about the room where I will be presenting?
A: ACNA conference staff have worked hard to balance speaker room requests with the demands of our contract with The Flamingo Las Vegas meeting space. Please know we've done the best we can. All rooms will be set with a podium, a screen, a projector.

Q: Will ACNA record/video my session?
A: We do not have plans to record/video conference sessions, except for the Keynote presentations in the General Session room (Vista).

Q: Can I get a lavalier mic?
A: Lavalier mics are not available, as they are expensive and each one needs someone to offer technical assistance to operate them. We sincerely hope you understand.

Q: Will I have access to the Internet?
A: Our standard A/V set up DOES NOT include podium access to a hardline Internet connection.

Q: What about attendee evaluations?
A: We will make every effort to collect feedback from attendees.

Q: Do you have recommendations for my presentation?
A: We usually find that any font size less than 24 point is too small to be reasonably read in most presentation situations.  We would prefer to see most text at a 28 or 32- point size, with titles being 36 to 44-point size.  Charts and graphics with small fonts are not recommended.

Q: Do you pay travel expenses?
A: No, we do not. But speaking at ACNA is great visibility for you and your company.

Q: Will I be able to attend other sessions that I am not speaking at?
A: Speakers at ACNA conferences are issued a complimentary conference registration. This pass allows access to conference sessions, the exhibit hall floor, and community events.

Q: Do you expect anything else from me besides showing up to speak?
A: We want your part of ACNA to be a phenomenal success. We also hope that you will help promote your session. Please use our event Buzz Kit to help spread the word about the conference and your participation.

Q: What if I need technical assistance on the day of the conference?
A: Volunteers and staff will be on hand to assist throughout the day. A speaker ready room will be available to you onsite in Virginia City 3. For onsite assistance please email crodgers@virtualinc.com.

Q: What if I have other questions/concerns about speaking?
A: If you have any other questions please contact mpassante@virtualinc.com.
