Birds of a Feather

Birds of a Feather meetings, or BOFs, are places where you can informally discuss any topic. We typicaly provide a room, and wifi, but no A/V (ie, there's no mic or projector). You can do what you like with the space.

We have four rooms, and they're available Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings.

If you want to run a BOF during the event, please contact Rich with a title and session description to sign up.

BoF Details

Apache MXNet - AI & community - Apache MXNet (incubating) is a modern open-source deep learning software framework, used to train, and deploy deep neural networks. It is scalable, allowing for fast, distributed model training on CPU and GPU's, and supports a flexible programming model and multiple programming languages. Starting from a project overview we will discuss opportunities for community contributions and involvement.

SpamAssassin BoF - Apache SpamAssassin (SA) is the #1 Open Source anti-spam platform giving system administrators a filter to classify email and block spam. It uses a robust scoring framework and plug-ins to integrate a wide range of advanced heuristic and statistical analysis tests on email headers and body. During this session we will discuss ways to move the project forward so it could also be used more effectively with other application stacks, as well as possible collaboration with the rspamd project. We will also present to integrate SA with the new Zetascan Query based IP and DNS block lists as a way to improve overall spam catch rates. Open to all.

Apache Tomcat BoF - A chance to sit down with fellow Tomcat community members (including committers) to discuss any current issues users are experiencing and ideas for future development.

Got Knarly Data? - Use Apache Daffodil to parse your data into XML/JSON - Bring an example of knarly data you are struggling with the format of, and the spec of its format (if you have one), and we will figure it out on the spot, so you get a DFDL schema for your data that works with Apache Daffodil (Incubating) to parse your data. No format spec? We will attempt "Data Archeology" to figure out the format if we can. Prize for knarliest data format.

Security for your Apache Web Server (Files and Hardening) - In today’s increasingly sophisticated threat landscape, the ramifications of under-secured web, mobile, cloud and open source applications can be dire. And since files and applications can compromise security across your entire organization, adopting an file and application security strategy that can protect files that enter the infrastructure needs to be a top priority. Implementing a File and harding strategy can reduce risk exposure by identify vulnerabilities, opening and capturing malware early in the file processing lifecycle.
